What kind of earthly ministry was Jesus doing while on earth? I believe it involved preaching, teaching and healing. Luke summed up the ministry of Jesus in Acts 1:1. In addressing to ‘Theophilus I write about all that Jesus began to do and to teach’. Jesus came in obedience on earth to carry out the Father’s mission and purpose that had been entrusted to Him.
Here is a quick look at some verses through the gospels highlighting who Jesus is and our response:
Matthew 16:16, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God’ was the revelation Peter received from the heavenly Father.
5:8, ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God’; v6, ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.’
7:24 ‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts then into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.’
16:24 –25 ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.’
28:19-20 ‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.. surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.’
Mark 1:1 ‘The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.’
1:17 ‘Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men’
5:7 ‘the evil spirit shouted, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?”
12:30-31 ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and will all your strength… love your neighbor as yourself’
16:15 ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.’
Luke 4:18-19 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’
11:9, 13 ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. If you then… know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’
11:34 ‘Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light.’
16:13 ‘No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.’
24:47 ‘and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations.’
John 20:31 ‘that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name,’
1:14 ‘The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.’
7:38 ‘Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.’
9:4 ‘As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.’
20:21 ‘As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’
